Looking for low cost JTAG capable ESP32

Post by Rick Kimball » Wed Apr 10, 2019 8:22 pm

I don't have any ESP32 modules, however I'd like to give one a try. I would like the ability to use the hardware JTAG feature. I found the ESP32-WROVER-KIT V4.1. Are there any better deals on a board that breaks out most of the pins and also has PSRAM? I don't really care about the LCD.

This board has JTAG pins to the pin header

GPIO12 - TDI
GPIO13 - TCK
GPIO14 - TMS
GPIO15 - TDO

Thanks Vassilis!

Have you tried to use openocd and jtag with any of your esp32 modules? Does it work well? Is it worth spending time getting working?

No, I have not tried JTAG because I don't need debugging (at least so far). Only burning the flash memory.
The ESP32 boards I have (except the ESP32-CAM) come with a USB-Serial converter for sketch uploading.

So I ended up order a couple of these: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/35 ... DEVKITCVIB and a couple of these of the $4.80 modules: https://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine?Ke ... SP32-WROIB My plan is to give a try at making a breakout board for the modules. I'll let you know how well JTAG works with the DEVKIT board.

Thanks!
